Tori Wrånes (b. 1978, Kristiansand) is a Norwegian artist who works across a broad range of fields—performance, sculpture, music and theatre. Since graduating from Statens Kunstakademi i Oslo, she has produced a large body of work both in Norway and abroad. Wrånes works primarily with the voice and sculptural installation: combining the two in her dynamic live performances.
From a forty person strong multi-levelled musical performance in an LA parking space that included bodybuilders, cyclists and accordion players on trolleys (SPIN ECHO, Art in the Parking Space, LAX Art, 2012) to staging a surreal concert in the trees with Wrånes hanging from her hair, her site- specific performances challenge audience and singer alike. Her recent works include YOUR NEXT VACATION IS CALLING (Lillith Performance Space, Malmö); STONE AND SINGER (19th Bienniale of Sydney); YES NIX, a commission work for PERFORMA 13 (New York); Oo, performed at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Roskilde, Denmark; THE OPPOSITE IS ALSO TRUE 1 and 2, first of which was performed at Bergen Kunsthall, Norway, and the second at Kunstnernes Hus in Oslo, Norway. Wrånes has also worked with the Colombo Art Biennale in Sri Lanka, as well as with The National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design in Oslo.
